Climate change in Kenya is reshaping livelihood systems across diverse ecological and socio-economic contexts, intensifying vulnerabilities while demanding tailored adaptation strategies. In arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), recurrent droughts, erratic rainfall, and rising temperatures undermine pastoralist mobility, degrade rangelands, and heighten conflict over water and grazing resources. These vulnerabilities are compounded by gender inequalities, land-tenure constraints, and living conditions.

The Institute for Development Studies was pleased to host Dr Matthew Mabefam and Dr Anne Corbert at the University of Nairobi. They met the IDS Director of Research, Prof. Paul Kamau, the Chair Department of Economics and Development Studies, Prof Martin Oleche and the Chair of the Political Science Department, Dr Oscar Otele.
