The Institute for Development Studies, University of Nairobi, on Wednesday and Thursday, 26-27 November, partnered with NAPTA to deliver the Kenya National Public Transport Summit 2025, themed Public Transport Reimagined: Derisking, Greening and Dignifying Mobility in Kenya.

The summit brought together policymakers, transport leaders, development partners, researchers, operators, civil society, and citizens to reimagine Kenya’s public transport future. The key focus areas included:  innovation, sustainable mobility, governance reforms, inclusive design, financing, safety, and climate readiness across Kenya’s transport systems.

One of the sessions, titled “Mainstreaming Age, Gender & Care-Responsive Design in Public Transport” explored how Kenya can mainstream inclusive design principles into public transport policy, planning, institutional standards, and everyday operations so that systems work better for caregivers, children, older adults, women, and vulnerable users across both urban and rural settings.
