On 12th November 2024, IDS in partnership with NAPTA hosted the 1st Nairobi Metropolitan Area Matatu Summit at the Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts in the UoN Towers. The summit brought together stakeholders from the PSV sector, government agencies, the County Government of Nairobi, development partners, civil society, academia, and public transport users. The main objective of the summit was to explore new financing models for the matatu sector to address the existing financial gaps in the industry and build a strong foundation for sustainable public transportation in Nairobi. Speakers and panelists encouraged participants to: 1. Collaborate more 2. Work towards a socially just public transport sector 3. Embrace technology and transition to e-mobility 4. Continue to build the capacity of stakeholders, especially operators of PSVs.
