Mourning Prof. Dorothy McCormick

On 10th December 2023, the Sisters of the SNDdeN US East-West Province sent out a solemn message asking for prayers for the repose of the soul of Dorothy McCormick who had died on 9th December 2023 at 82 years and 64 years as a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur. The University of Nairobi fraternity, and particularly at the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), lovingly remember her as Prof. Dorothy McCormick.

The public debt debate in Kenya has gained a lot of interest in the recent past owing to the view that the public debt has now exceeded the 60% of the GDP mark. Both policy makers and citizens have questioned the issue of sustainability of public debt which seems to be growing by day. While it is evident that most of the public debt is used to finance infrastructural projects some of it still finance recurrent expenses. Based on Afrobarometer data and other existing data sets, we seek to address the following key questions:

Climate Views: Perceptions on Climate Change in Kenya

Like most developing countries today, Kenya is promoting climate change adaptation or policies to counter climate change effects. However, there is little information on how citizens are being integrated into these efforts and knowledge of their vulnerabilities to climate change. In this seminar, we share the Afrobarometer survey findings on changing perceptions in a changing climate across time. We seek to address the following questions:
