IDS and Global Development Institute, University of Manchester hold partnership talks
On 21st May 2025, representatives from the Global Development Institute (GDI) at the University of Manchester and the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Nairobi met to explore potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions in the field of development studies. Discussions centred on mutual research interests, capacity building, and opportunities for joint academic programmes. Both parties strongly committed to fostering a long-term partnership grounded in shared values and complementary strengths.
Key areas identified for collaboration included joint research initiatives focused on urban development, climate resilience, governance and institutions, and social policy in Africa. The participants planned a follow-up meeting to discuss the potential for staff and student exchanges, co-supervision of postgraduate research, and joint grant applications. It was agreed that researchers from both institutions would be grouped into clusters based on shared areas of interest to map out a roadmap for implementation. The meeting concluded with a shared enthusiasm for building a strategic partnership that would enhance the global impact and reach of both institutions.
