IDS and the Communications Authority of Kenya hold validation workshop for Consumer Behaviour and Trends Survey done last year

The Institute for Development Studies, University of Nairobi, on 11th March 2026, co-hosted a validation workshop for the Consumer Behaviour and Trends Survey (CBTS), commissioned by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA).

The baseline CBTS survey was conducted last year, and it aimed to:
Develop a Consumer Behaviour and Trends Framework
Establish baseline ICT consumer behaviour
Understand usage patterns and decision-making processes
Identify emerging technology adoption trends

The validation workshop provided a key opportunity for the CA and IDS teams to share the findings of the survey and obtain feedback from diverse stakeholders before finalizing their report.

In his keynote address, the CA Director General, David Mugonyi, EBS, emphasized the importance of the validation exercise, as it would add context to the findings, allow stakeholders present to align with consumer expectations, and ensure inclusion of civil society in the final report.

Prof. Paul Kamau, who led the IDS team, highlighted the need for consultative efforts in regulation as Kenya’s ICT consumer landscape is evolving rapidly.
