Every year, Amnesty International publishes a comprehensive report documenting the state of human rights, highlighting events and occurrences in 154 countries. The report sheds light on duty bearers' failures to promote, protect, and observe human rights, emphasizing their impact globally, regionally, and locally.

This year's conference will bring together academics, civil society representatives, human rights defenders, government officials, and the public to discuss the human rights occurrences recorded in the 2023/2024 annual report. Topics for discussion include extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances. Freedom of expression and assembly; right to life, access to truth, justice, and reparations; minority persons rights; social, economic, and cultural rights. Women and girls' rights, right to health and a healthy environment, right to privacy, and the death penalty.

Our panel sessions will feature distinguished speakers who will provide insights and perspectives on these critical human rights issues. The first-panel session will discuss the international perspective on the state of human rights globally, with speakers including:

Rev. Adam Taylor - President, Putting Faith into Action for Social Change

Sarah Jackson - Deputy Regional Director, Amnesty International EARO

Abdhullahi Hassan - East Africa Regional Researcher, Amnesty International

The second session will focus on the state of human rights in Kenya, with speakers such as:

Sen. Danson Mungatana - Senator, Tana River County

Esther Njeri - Board Member - Amnesty International Kenya

Prof. Karuti Kanyinga, Research Professor of Development at the Institute for Development Studies, University of Naiorbi

The conference will be moderated by Irungu Houghton, Executive Director of Amnesty International Kenya, and Rawland Ebole, East Africa Regional Researcher, Amnesty International.

We encourage you to join us for this important event as we raise awareness about human rights issues and collaborate to find solutions that promote the observance of human rights and prevent further violations. Please extend this invitation to your contacts.
