IDS Staff, Students Host ARUA Partners Meeting

 

The Institute for Development Studies staff led by Dr. Anne Kamau and students held an ARUA partners meeting on Friday, 16th February 2024.

The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is one of the 13 ARUA Centers of Excellence that are held across African Universities run on a Hub and Spoke model and is a partnership between five high research-intensive African Universities: The University of Nairobi (Hub), Makerere University (Uganda), the University of Ghana (Ghana), University of Ibadan (Nigeria), and the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa). The Center also collaborates with UK partner universities, including the University of Glasgow and Leicester University.

The Centre was started in 2019 and activities kicked off in April 2020.

The Vice Chancellor of UON Prof. Stephen Kiama during the centre's launch stated that it is geared towards building research capacity for students and faculty and is continuously expanding, collaborating, networking and strengthening relationships with the ARUA and Non- ARUA African Universities, UK partner universities as well as research institutions, regional and international organizations, key government agencies, the private sector, civil society organization and strategic partners in Africa, UK and beyond.


IDS seeks to generate knowledge, promote debate, and encourage utilisation of research findings in postgraduate teaching and training. Our core mandate is to shape the growth of development thinking, theory, and practice, particularly in Africa.
