Erika Koss is a Research Associate at IDS, University of Nairobi, and a PhD candidate in International Development Studies at Saint Maryâs University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Erikaâs research centers on the sustainability and resilience of the global coffee trade, particularly in East Africa, and the need for climate resilience and gender justice. She holds two Masterâs degrees: one in English literature from San Diego State University in California; and an M.A.
IDS Founding Day virtual seminar
The Institute for Development Studies (IDS), University of Nairobi, is pleased to invite you to a series of IDS Day seminars starting on Thursday October 8, 2020. The seminars comprise presentations by leading African scholars and researchers.
Since its inception on October 8, 1965, IDS has carried out research on issues of development concern and has been collaborating with partners locally and globally to influence development policy and practice. The seminars will also pay attention to the Kenya debate of the 70s and 80sâ âWhat went rightâ and âwhat has gone wrongâ.
Seminar: The âTwo-Thirds Gender Principleâ for Elected Bodies: How Did we Get Here, Where are we and where Might we be Going?
Prof. Yash Pal Ghai and Prof. Jill Cottrell Ghai are Kenyan academics in constitutional law. They are both Directors of the Katiba Institute which was set up to promote knowledge and understanding of Kenyaâs Constitution and constitutionalism, and to defend and facilitate implementation of the Constitution. Ten years after the new constitution was adopted in Kenya, there is still no law guaranteeing achievement of the âtwo-thirds gender ruleâ.
