This article centers on the neglected role of the near Somali diaspora in mobilizing and delivering humanitarian support to Somalia. We argue that the debate concerning aid in Somalia has concentrated on international organizations and underplays the complexity of humanitarian support.

The University of Nairobi, especially the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), fondly remembers Prof. Dorothy McCormick, who dedicated 30 years (1988-2018) to the institution, retiring as a Research Professor. Her remarkable academic, teaching and mentoring contributions will be commemorated at a virtual colloquium on March 7, 2024, where colleagues, former students, friends, and guests will share brief reflections on her lasting legacy.
