Profile Summary

Dr. Onjala holds PhD in Environmental Economics from Roskilde University (Denmark). He currently teaches postgraduate courses on Environment and Natural Resources Management and Energy Policy & Planning Methods at IDS. He also teaches PhD classes in Development Economics at the School of Economics (University of Nairobi) and a visiting fellow at the African Economic Research Consortium Collaborative PhD Programme (CPP) JFE.

Dr. Onjala has a wide research experience in environment and development issues and has previously played a leading role in the preparation of a number of Human Development Reports with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Human Security and Development, and Industrialization and Human Development in Kenya. In addition to research on China-Africa Economic relations, he has also worked on environment related projects with United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), United National Environment Programme, World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature – Eastern African Regional Office, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN
