In March 2015, Dr. Radha Upadhyaya attended a high level roundtable on Africa and Global Finance at the University of Oxford. The roundtable brought together African regulators and academics to critically examine the economics and political economy of new developments in African finance and their implications for regulatory design in Africa.
This roundtable kicked off a 3 year project funded by the ESRC and DFID on the "Impact of Global Financial Regulation on Developing Countries" led by University of Oxford. The aim of the project is to understand the impact of changing global financial standards including Basle III and the challenges and opportunities these standards pose for developing countries. The research project is led by Prof. Ngaire Woods (Oxford) and Dr. Emily Jones (Oxford) as the Principal Investigator. Prof. Thorsten Beck (City University), Dr. Hazel Gray (LSE) and Dr. Radha Upadhyaya (IDS) will conduct the East Africa case study in this research project.
