IDS Project Assistant Raphael Indimuli and MA student Paschaline Basil participated in the Mobilize International Sustainable Transport Summit held in Yichang, China.
The summit was organized by ITDP in collaboration with the Volvo Research and Educational Foundation (VREF) on September 21-24, 2016. It brought together urban transport, researchers, PhD students and development practitioners from around the world to accelerate implementation of sustainable transport projects.
The African Centre of Excellence for Studies in Public and Non-motorised Transport (ACET) Coordinator and researcher Prof Winnie Mitullah presented a paper on `Remodelling African Cities for Walkability. Dr. Romanus Opiyo of Urban and Regional Planning also made a presentation. The summit activities were developed to harness the availability of international solutions through research and draw on the lessons of local case city used as a learning laboratory. Participants shared knowledge about urban mobility transit, infrastructure and urban development.
Indimuli and Basil participated in the PhD session. They networked with city agency project managers, academics and political decision makers. Apart from knowledge sharing, the Yichang experience provided an opportunity for the duo to visit and experience Yichang transport projects.
“Mobilize Yichang was an awesome intellectual and practical experience! It was an honour and privilege to represent IDS at the transport conference in China. The conference is one of my memorable experiences so far at IDS, not only academically but also expanding networks. I got to ride for the first time in metro and the BRT at Yichang and the airports. I am forever grateful to IDS,” said Indimuli.
